Government schools in Himachal Pradesh will remain open on August 15, 2026 as the state government has directed educational institutions to organize Independence Day celebrations with full participation. The Directorate of School Education has instructed schools to conduct flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs and other patriotic activities while ensuring that the national holiday is observed with dignity, discipline and enthusiasm.The directive aims to ensure uniform observance of Independence Day in all government schools and strengthen student participation in national celebrations.
The Directorate issues a state directive for Independence Day celebrations
According to an official order issued by the Directorate of School Education on July 29, all district deputy principals (primary and higher) and principals of government higher secondary schools have been instructed to make necessary arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations.The order stresses that all government schools in the state must organize programs that reflect the significance of the national occasion. Schools have been asked to celebrate the day with patriotic fervor while maintaining the decorum associated with the event.
Flag raising, cultural programs and compulsory patriotic activities
According to the instructions, each government school will arrange:
- National flag raising ceremonies
- Patriotic cultural programs
- Activities highlighting India’s freedom struggle
- Other acts promoting national unity and constitutional values
The government expects schools to actively involve students and teachers in these programs to commemorate the sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters.
District education officials must ensure compliance
The Directorate has also directed the district education officers to circulate detailed guidelines among schools within their respective jurisdictions.Officials have been asked to ensure that all government schools remain open on August 15 and that celebrations are held as per official instructions. The order imposes strict compliance at all administrative levels.
Schools to participate in official district and tehsil functions
In addition to organizing campus events, educational institutions have also been invited to participate in official Independence Day functions held at:
- District headquarters
- Subdivisional headquarters
- Tehsil Headquarters
