After keeping fans waiting for months, producer Namit Malhotra released the first trailer online on July 30, at 4.15 am IST. The fans who woke up to the trailer launch were just in awe of the epic performances of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita.Amidst chatter surrounding iconic figures, mysterious characters, fictional monsters and demons brought to life, eagle-eyed fans spotted another familiar face in four minutes. Vivek Oberoiwhose brief appearance as Vidyutjihva created a frenzy on social media.
Vivek Oberoi debuts as Vidyutjihva
Although his role was not shown in the campaign trailer, fans were quick to recognize the actor in one of the film’s battle sequences.Vivek plays Vidyutjivha, a demon prince and husband of Shurpanakha, played by Rakul Preet Singh. Looking unmistakable with his beard and moustache, complete with armor and head, his character is said to be central to the unfolding of the Ramayana saga and Ravana’s rise to power.

Vivek Oberoi pays tribute to ‘Ramayana’
Beyond his appearance in the film, Vivek Oberoi also made headlines by revealing that he chose not to receive any remuneration for his role in the film. Speaking to Hindustan Times, the actor shared that he asked producer Namit Malhotra to pay his salary on his behalf. “I told Namit that I don’t need a penny for this. I want to give to any kind of cause that I believe in, which is children with cancer. I told him that I want to help you because I like what you are doing and I think that this will take Indian cinema on the world stage and explode,” said Vivek.The actor also spoke about the growth and vision behind the iconic legend, saying that the team approached the story as history rather than fiction. “There is always a battle between whether Ramayana is a myth or history. We believe that it is history, and it was working well. I was very happy and it was a lot of fun working with the whole team, Namit, Nitesh, Yash and Rakul. I still have a few days of shooting left,” he added.Along with Ranbir as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, the film has an ensemble cast that includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana.
