NEET UG 2026 Counselling: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has reviewed the preparation for NEET UG 2026 counselling, with the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) set to introduce several technology-driven reforms aimed at making the medical admission process more transparent and student-friendly.The review covered the preparation of the MCC, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and other stakeholders for counseling under All India Quota (AIQ) and other seats managed by the committee. Officials presented updates on the counseling schedule, digital infrastructure, cyber security measures, grievance redressal systems and candidate support facilities.
MCC introduces a simplified admission process for candidates
The NEET UG Counseling 2026 process will have a unique physical reporting system to reduce repeated visits by candidates to medical colleges. After allotment of seats candidates will be able to choose between Freeze and Float options online.Candidates who select the Freeze option will have to physically report to their allotted institute within the stipulated time to complete the admission formalities including original document verification and fee payment.Those who opt for the Float option, which allows them to participate in new seat increase rounds, will be able to complete the admission procedures online. Such candidates will not have to appear physically, submit original documents or pay admission fees until they get a final seat after the permitted upgrade rounds.The upgrade facility will remain available till the third round of counselling. After the third round, candidates with allotted seats will have to report physically to their respective institutions for final verification and completion of admission.
Online resignation, digital verification among key changes
Another major change introduced for NEET UG Counseling 2026 is online resignation service. Candidates who are allowed to waive their allotted seats as per applicable rules may apply through MCC Counseling Portal without visiting the institute unless otherwise specified.The counseling process will also include pre-filled candidate data from the National Testing Agency (NTA), online document verification, seat matrix validation by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and verification by participating institutions.The admission process for NRI candidates will also be fully digitized. Applicants will upload the required documents through the counseling portal, which will then be verified online by the designated officials. The move replaces the previous process of sending documents via email.
Expanded support for PwBD candidates and cybersecurity measures
The Ministry of Health has expanded facilities for People with Reference Disabilities (PwBD) candidates by increasing the number of designated assessment centers from 16 to 61 across the country.According to the revised guidelines issued by the National Medical Commission, the disability certificate for admission assessment will now be called “Certificate of Eligibility”. The guidelines aim to create a uniform and evidence-based assessment framework for PwBD candidates.An Appeals Disability Assessment Board will also allow eligible applicants to appeal assessments made by the initial Disability Assessment Board.The ministry said that cyber security preparation for the advisory process has been reviewed in coordination with the National Informatics Center (NIC). Training programs for disability assessment boards, university nodal officers and document verification officers have also been conducted.
NEET UG 2026 Counseling Support Measures
To assist candidates, MCC has established a 24/7 toll-free helpline and has introduced bilingual informational materials, frequently asked questions and orientation videos. A dedicated grievance redressal mechanism has also been set up to resolve candidate queries.National Testing Agency declared NEET (UG) 2026 results on 16th July 2026. Nursing posts under All India quota is expected to start soon.Candidates have been advised to read the counseling plan, information bulletin and applicable rules carefully before taking decisions related to seat acceptance, upgrades, resignation or disability assessment.
