ROHTAK: In a major step to overhaul government school education, the Rohtak district administration under Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has launched two flagship education programmes. The initiatives, namely a ’15 Minutes Daily Reading Challenge’ and ‘Project Vishwas’ are aimed at enhancing basic literacy and fostering holistic development of students across the district.During a monthly review meeting of the Department of School Education and Samagra Shiksha, the findings of the Competency Review Program (CRP) and the Digital Skill Passbook were discussed. Although students showed positive growth in basic literacy and numeracy, the assessment highlighted difficulties in reading and understanding unseen passages. To bridge this gap, the 15-minute daily reading challenge has been introduced in all government primary schools. After the Zero Period, students will spend fifteen minutes a day reading books of their choice, including storybooks, biographies, and journals, under teacher supervision to cultivate lifelong reading habits.Meanwhile, Project Vishwas, implemented by DIET Madina, has been implemented in 43 Cluster Resource Centers (CRCs) for students of classes VI to VIII. The project aims to build confidence in communication, leadership, learning resilience and life skills through interactive activities such as role-playing, group discussions and public speaking. Specialized training for cluster heads and teachers was completed in June, and the project is monitored weekly. In addition, progress was reviewed on other important initiatives such as the Digital Skill Passbook, which tracks individual skills to support targeted teaching. The DC also lauded the success of cheerful holiday homework, Maths Olympiad coaching in 25 schools and Super-40 program for IIT-JEE/NEET aspirants. In addition, the administration reviewed Samagra Shiksha infrastructure projects and mandated regular inspections of PM POSHAN mid-day meals to ensure high standards of hygiene and nutrition. DC Sachin Gupta urged all the educators to work in mission mode to position Rohtak as the leading educational center of Haryana.
