An educational reformer and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has been in the news for his endless hunger strike, which he launched yesterday against the alleged malpractices and the leak of the NEET paper. As the fast entered its 17th day, concerns about the deterioration of his health continued to grow. Several people in the community have expressed their support for his shows, including Kunickaa Sadanand. However, his show of solidarity soon sparked an unexpected controversy online.On July 13, Kunickaa shared a video on social media in support of Sonam Wangchuk and urged citizens to stand with those who are questioning the government. He said that people should help people who raise their voice to do justice, and said that ignoring the problems of others today can weaken a person’s voice when faced with injustice in the future.The actress also emphasized that democracy is based not only on voting but on citizens standing up for each other’s rights and speaking together.In a statement accompanying his post, he wrote, “When the government stops listening, asking questions becomes more important. These questions are not just about Mr. Sonam Wangchuk – they are about our democracy and every voice that comes out for truth and justice. If those who speak the truth remain silent, then who can change the nation?”His story, however, was criticized by some social media users. Another commentator wrote, “Bollywood cheap brands have hit the ground running.” Refusing to remain silent, Kunickaa shot back, saying, “Chalo koi nahi mai flop actor hi sahi? Aap bataao aap kya ho, bina zameer aur emaan ka chalta phirta laash? Kam se kam meri conscience zinda hai, awaaz bullund hai?? He (Well, whatever, even though I’m a football player, right? You tell me what you are – a walking corpse without a conscience? My conscience cries a lot??The exchange escalated when another user brought up Kunickaa’s past relationship with the singer Kumar Sanu in the 1990s, when he was married. Sharing a photo related to the past feud, the user accused her of being a “home wrecker” and wrote, “Where was your conscience when you dated married men and destroyed their home???”In response to the attack, Kunickaa resisted attempts to change his views on the issue at hand. He replied, “Arrey bhai desh mein mujh se aur mere life se bade muddey chal rahein hain, (there are bigger issues in this world than me and my life) and you are still busy being attracted by beauty and my brain.
