The Center is investigating the release and public release of Diljit Dosanjh-Starrer ‘Satluj’, as government sources say the film was made without getting a certificate of approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).According to sources, the CBFC recommended 127 cuts during the certification process. However, the filmmakers reportedly decided not to use the changes, after which the film was not given a review certificate.Although there is no certification, ‘Satluj’ was released on Zee5 and is said to have been aired in several places. The government is now reviewing the matter and considering legislative options, sources said, according to India Today. The report also said that the governments have been advised to take steps to prevent illegal screening of the film without the permission of the CBFC.The latest development comes days after Advocate Vineet Jindal moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court over the alleged ‘Satluj’ case. On Saturday, Jindal shared his letter of request on X, formerly Twitter, saying he had asked for immediate access to those who allegedly organized the surveillance.Jindal wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “A letter was filed by Advocate Vineet Jindal before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking immediate directions to stop the illegal broadcast and screening of the film Satluj in the state of Punjab. people, religious organizations, and political parties involved in the public screening of the film.” Such surveillance is said to be used to incite violence and spread hatred against the community and security agencies.The controversy escalated after ‘Satluj’ disappeared from Zee5 in India just two days after its release. The promotional program removed the film, which is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, citing “current events” without giving any further explanation.In response to the cancellation, several community organizations announced plans to screen the film at gurdwaras in five districts. The aim, they said, was to ensure that Khalra’s story would continue to reach people even after it was removed from the OTT platform.At the same time, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding the reinstatement of ‘Satluj’ on Zee5. The petition states that the film was removed without law, court or government and wants it to be reinstated on the platform and to reveal the reasons for it.
