NEW DELHI: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) celebrated its 25th convocation on July 11, 2026, with 526 students graduating from undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. The ceremony marked another milestone in the institute’s journey, which began with its first convocation in 2002, when 49 students graduated from a campus of 496 students and 16 teachers.Over the years, IIIT Hyderabad has expanded to become a research-focused academic institution with 2,524 students, 114 faculty members and an alumni community of over 8,200 graduates. The institute highlighted its growth in research, innovation and academic activities during the convocation ceremony.Students recognized for academic and general achievementsMaddireddy Kritin, a student of B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, was awarded the IIIT Hyderabad Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance. Abhinav Digambar Raundhal, also of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, received the Best All-rounder award for academic achievements, extra-curricular activities and service to the institute.Congratulating the graduating students, Professor Sandeep Shukla, Director, IIIT Hyderabad, said the convocation marks the end of academic programs and the beginning of continued learning and contribution. He encouraged the graduates to use their technical knowledge and skills to tackle meaningful challenges.Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and Chief Guest at the ceremony, congratulated the graduating students and wished them success in their future careers.

Research, practices and academic developmentsDuring the course, 119 companies signed up for placements, with 59 companies making offers to students. The institute also added five new full-time professors, bringing its total strength to 114, along with contributions from adjunct professors and industry experts.Since 2025, researchers at IIIT Hyderabad have produced 371 academic publications and intellectual property products, including 22 patents, 265 conference papers, 101 journal articles, four book chapters and one authored book.The institute also received support for more than 55 faculty-sponsored research projects. Ten faculty members received research awards and unrestricted grants from organizations such as Adobe, Google, Qualcomm, and the Amazon Development Center. Four postdoctoral fellowships were awarded through DST and ANRF, while 22 externally funded competitive Ph.D. Scholarships supported Ph.D.Executive training and support for former studentsIIIT Hyderabad’s executive education programs have trained more than 4,500 professionals over the past eight years through hybrid learning formats. The institute has completed several batches in AI and ML, Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, software engineering for data science and generative AI and rapid engineering programs.The alumni network has grown to 8,242 graduates. Through its Alumni Fund, the institute has supported more than 75 students under a fee-based model, while corporate partners have contributed to student financial aid. AT&T has committed Rs 7.2 crore from 2021 for students admitted through the Special Admission Channel (SPEC), along with continued support from CGI.
