The distributor also announced a delayed UK release in January, when the film was supposed to hit theaters in time for Pongal, before it was delayed.
Uncut UK release confirmed again after months of delays
The latest confirmation comes after ‘Jana Nayagan’ completed its long run of licensing in India. Ahimsa Entertainment shared the update on social media, calling it the “last time” for fans to see Vijay on the big screen in his last film. The release notes that the film will be shown in UK cinemas “uncut” and “as intended.” Fans were quick to jump on the announcement, with many excited to see the uncut footage. Many are also hoping that the same version will be available on OTT after the theatrical release.
The Indian version was removed after the CBFC reform
Unlike the UK version, the Indian release was remade several times before it received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, which was slated for a Pongal release earlier this year, faced a lengthy confirmation process which delayed its release by nearly seven months. According to reports, the CBFC has changed several scenes, including dialogue, names and references related to Vijay’s politics. Finally, the producers made the necessary changes and received permission to release the theater.
