Thousands of children have secured an opportunity to study in private schools in the national capital after the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) announced the results of the second computerized draw for admissions under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Disadvantaged Group (DG) and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) categories.A total of 8,976 students have been selected for admission to entrance classes in recognized private unaided schools for the academic session 2026-27. The draw was held on Friday as part of the government’s effort to fill reserved seats for eligible children through a transparent and computerized process.
Almost 9000 students selected in Kindergarten, KG and Class 1
According to the Directorate of Education, the students have been selected in Nursery, Kindergarten (KG) and Class 1 under the reserved categories.For Kindergarten admissions, students must be between three and five years old as of March 31, 2026.Children who want to be admitted to Kindergarten (KG) must be between four and six years old and students who want to join Class 1 must be between five and seven years old.Students must meet established age requirements to be eligible for admission.
Disability certificate is mandatory for admissions under CWSN category
Applicants who wish to enter the category of children with special needs must present the certificate of disability, which must have been issued by any public hospital. The disability certificate must be issued in accordance with the guidelines of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Computerized draw made to guarantee transparency
The Directorate of Education said that the second computerized draw was conducted to ensure fair, transparent and unbiased allotment of reserved seats to children belonging to EWS, DG and CWSN categories.The computerized selection process is designed to eliminate manual intervention and provide equal opportunity to eligible applicants seeking admission under the reservation policy.The exercise forms a key part of Delhi’s annual admission process for economically weaker families, disadvantaged groups and children with special needs.
Admissions cover entry-level classes
The admissions process applies to entry-level classes, which include:
- Preschool (kindergarten)
- Early Childhood Education (kindergarten)
- Class 1
These admissions are being conducted for the academic session 2026-27 under the reserved categories notified by the Delhi Government.
Age criteria for EWS and DG applicants
