The Madras High Court refused to give any temporary relief to the filmmaker Sudha Kongarawho wanted to recover what they believed was unpaid money from the makers of ‘Parasakthi’, Dawn Pictures. Hence, the court did not stop the theatrical release of ‘Idhayam Murali’ by Atharvaa. Justice K Kumaresh Babu rejected the plea seeking the destruction of the film and allowed the release of the film despite a financial dispute between the director and the film house.
Sudha Kongara wanted to stop the film because of what she thought about him
According to Live Law, Sudha Kongara has filed a petition in the high court that Dawn Pictures owes Rs 8.39 crore as per the director’s contract. He went to the court to seek a stay on the production company “Idhayam Murali” until the money is cleared. However, the court refused to grant interim relief, meaning that the Atharvaa-starrer will not face any legal trouble before the release as the dispute continues to be heard.
Dawn Pictures denies the claims and cites previous contracts
Dawn Pictures objected to the request at the hearing, saying that the matter involved several mutual agreements. The production house told the court that Sudha Kongara signed the director’s contract with 2D Entertainment for “Parasakthi” and canceled it later after receiving Rs 4.12 crore. Dawn Pictures also said that it later acquired the copyright of the film from 2D Entertainment for Rs 5.8 crore and had already paid Sudha Kongara Rs 8.5 crore (excluding GST). The company said that these claims should be examined together before the arbitral tribunal instead of going through the interim process.
The manufacturing house cites financial loss as the legal battle continues
Dawn Pictures also told the court that it faced financial difficulties during the production of ‘Parasakthi.’ The company said parts of the film were downloaded online during production, leading to the hiring of anti-prostitution agencies and affecting the OTT price of the film. It also reported a copyright lawsuit filed by the scriptwriter before the film’s release, which led to additional legal fees. These factors show that both sides have financial claims that need to be investigated in detail, the manufacturing house said.
