Celebrating 20 and 25 years of Vishal Bharwaj‘s ‘Omkara’ and Farhan Akhtar‘s ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, Saif Ali Khan looked back on his career spanning over three decades and how it all turned out for him recently. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor shared how the film “Dil Chahta Hai” changed his life.And Farhan Akhtar shared that the film explored many new ideas in filmmaking, which included voice acting. Experiencing it for the first time, it was a life-changing moment for him. The ‘Hawiwaan’ actor added, “We are used to pronouncing words [Akhtar] it made me feel like Nakul Kamte [sound designer] it was the sound and the way it went through those headphones. It was a lot of fun.”Furthermore, he revealed another part of the movie that he found very interesting, where, during the shooting, there was a pin-drop silence in the studio. He said: “There was silence for the first time because of this amazing lockdown. “Some of our cinemas have crowded places so silence is rare. But it was there in the film.” The actor also shared that 25 years ago there was naivety in him film industry that you have missed a lot. “There’s a new perspective on everything. Filmmaking is life”, the actor replied.Talking about ‘Omkara’, Khan shared, “There was a very artistic atmosphere on the sets of Omkara. Vishal [Bhardwaj] it was a lot of fun and having the opportunity to speak a new language in a new way and dress up as someone completely different was liberating and exciting.” Inspired from Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, the film featured Saif Ali Khan as the main antagonist, Ishwar ‘Langda’ Tyagi.The star said that “Omkar” gave her an opportunity to explore new sides of herself which were both fresh and dangerous which she loved at the time. Reminiscing about his time in the role he added, “I got to do things that we wouldn’t have in some of the fun rom-com movies we used to do.”Specifically, there is a monologue looking into the mirror that the character gives in the film. While speaking about the same, she revealed that director Vishal, at that time, asked her if she could do it without clothes. Recalling the memory, she laughed and added, “I remember Vishal ji asking, ‘Would you like to masturbate?'” prompting her to respond at the time by saying, “‘Listen, if you point at me, I will!’
Saif Ali Khan is one of the main reasons why actors survive in the industry
In his interview, the actor also revealed that one of your audience is one of the most important things to survive in the industry. He said that the people you are making films with need to love you to survive in the film industry. The actor also said, “You only survive if the audience likes you. That’s it. I don’t know about big action and stuff; there has to be a good vibe that you give them so they don’t think about seeing you again, even after a bad movie. And that’s all you need.” He shared part of the conversation, “People are really excited or excited to see something that’s, you know, creative and a little bit different and it’s close to something there.”Talking about the movie and the type of work he wants to do now, he said that he sees time in the movie before Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’, and after that, he adds, “So it is up to us to do it or not and wake up or not.”Further, he added that one of the main things he wants more work to do is music, and also praised ‘Dhurandhar’ for his smart choices. He added, “It seems like an obvious idea to make amazing music instead of making a new album for every movie, to be like recording all kinds of things around the world, not being too afraid of English and being a foreigner.”Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in his new film, ‘Haiwaan’, which is slated to release on September 11.
