Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the official notification and prospectus of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for Class 6 admission. Eligible students can now submit their applications for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) for the academic session 2027-28.According to the official calendar, the last date to apply is 31 July 2026. The entrance test will be held on 28 November 2026, while the result will be announced in March/April 2027.The exam is scheduled earlier than in the previous two years.
Eligibility criteria
Students can appear for JNVST only once. To be eligible, candidates must meet all of the following conditions:
- They should be studying in class 5 during the academic session 2026-27 in a recognized school.
- They must be bona fide residents of the district in which admission is sought.
- They should have studied and completed classes 3, 4 and 5 in recognized schools.
- They must have been born between May 1, 2015 and July 31, 2017 (both dates inclusive).
- Students who have already passed or repeated Class 5 are not eligible to apply.
New district-specific admission rule
NVS has introduced a district specific admission rule for this year’s admission process. Students can apply only to the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located in their district of residence.However, if a student studies in a neighboring district, the school must be located within 10 km of the student’s residence. The details will be verified by NVS during the admission process. Applications submitted for the wrong district will be rejected even after provisional selection.
JNVST Exam Pattern 2027
The selection test will be conducted in offline OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) mode.The paper will contain 80 objective-type questions with a total of 100 points. Each correct answer will receive 1.25 points and incorrect answers will not be negatively marked.

Candidates must achieve the minimum qualification marks established in each section. They should only use a blue or black pen to mark the answers on the OMR sheet as the use of pencils is not allowed.NVS has also advised the candidates to check carefully that the OMR sheet and the question paper bear the same number. Any discrepancies should be reported to the supervisor immediately.
