Punjab opens post-matric scholarship portal for SC students, sets November 15 deadline for applications 2026-27
The Punjab Government has started the application process for the Post Matriculation Scholarship Scheme 2026-27 for Scheduled Caste students through the National Scholarship Portal. Eligible applicants can apply until November 15, with state-run institutions and officials to ensure timely vetting and wider awareness of the scheme.

The Punjab government has opened applications for the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students for the academic session 2026-27, giving thousands of eligible students an opportunity to pursue higher studies without the burden of financial hardship.Announcing the launch on Sunday, Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Dr Baljit Kaur said applications will be accepted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) from July 1. He urged all eligible students to complete the application process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute hassles. The initiative aims to ensure that financial constraints do not force deserving students to abandon their academic aspirations.

The application schedule has been announced

The department has established a detailed schedule for the scholarship process. Students can submit their applications until November 15, 2026. Those whose applications contain errors can make corrections until November 30.Educational institutions have been instructed to complete institute-level verification by November 30, while final scrutiny by district, state and ministry nodal officers will conclude on December 15. The structured schedule is intended to ensure timely processing and disbursement of scholarship benefits.

The government insists on equal access to education

Dr. Baljit Kaur said the scholarship program reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to expand educational opportunities for Scheduled Caste students and strengthen social justice through education. He said the initiative aligns with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of building a ‘Rangla Punjab’, where deserving students can access quality education irrespective of their financial background.According to the minister, higher education should be determined by talent and ambition, not by the economic status of the family.

Scholarship linked to employment and the reduction of migration

The minister also underlined the government’s broader focus on generating employment opportunities in Punjab. He said scholarship programs, when combined with transparent and merit-based recruitment, can reduce financial pressure on economically weaker families while encouraging educated youth to build their careers in the state. The government believes that improving access to education and employment can also help discourage the migration of skilled youth in search of opportunities elsewhere.

District officials directed to maximize awareness

To ensure that all eligible students benefit from the programme, Dr Baljit Kaur has instructed the district social justice, empowerment and minority officers to organize awareness and facilitation camps in villages, towns and remote areas. These camps will help students understand eligibility criteria, complete application procedures, and avoid mistakes that could delay the approval of their scholarship applications.

Educational institutions have assigned a key role

The minister has also directed various government departments, such as Higher Education, Medical Education and Research, Technical Education and Industrial Training, School Education and Animal Husbandry, to work closely with affiliated institutions to help eligible students complete their applications within the stipulated deadlines.Colleges and educational institutions have been asked to actively assist applicants and ensure that verification is completed on time.

The government reiterates its commitment

Reaffirming the state’s stand, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab government will continue to extend all possible supports to deserving students so that financial challenges do not stand in the way of higher education. With the application process underway, the government has placed equal emphasis on financial assistance, institutional support and awareness campaigns to ensure that the scholarship reaches all eligible scheduled caste students across Punjab.(With PTI tickets)
