Josh Tongue set for T20I debut
Tongue, who has represented England in Tests and ODIs, will now make his maiden T20 international.Archer’s return has also bolstered England’s pace attack as the hosts look to take the lead in the five-match series.

India vs England first T20I washed out
The opening T20I at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday ended in a draw after persistent rain prevented England from starting their chase.India posted a competitive 189/7 in 20 overs before heavy rain arrived at the end of the innings. Although the players waited until the cut-off time for a possible five-over contest, the rain did not let up and the umpires eventually abandoned the match.
Indian batters shine
Despite losing Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in the first two overs, India recovered through an aggressive partnership between Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer.Abhishek smashed 59 off just 24 balls, becoming the fastest Indian to score a T20I fifty in England. During his knock, he also became the fastest batsman to hit 100 sixes in T20Is, reaching the milestone of 785 deliveries, bettering the previous record held by West Indies opener Evin Lewis (789 deliveries).Iyer anchored the innings with 68 off 47 balls, registering his first half-century as India’s T20I captain.Shivam Dube then provided the late fireworks, hitting an unbeaten 42 off 21 balls as India added 54 runs in the last five overs to finish on 189/7.For England, Saqib Mahmood impressed with three wickets, while Sam Curran picked up one wicket and also affected the run-out of Axar Patel in the last ball of the innings.With the first game out of the way, both teams will now look to get the upper hand in the second T20I in Manchester.
