Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-anticipated India debut has divided the cricket fraternity, with former players debating whether the team’s management had suppressed the teenage prodigy. Former South African captain AB de Villiers has joined the conversation, backing the young batter while disagreeing with India’s assistant coach. Ryan ten Doeschatestand by.“He (Sooryavanshi) is fully prepared to play international cricket; there is no doubt about that. But then again, Sanju Samson is someone who has gone a long way in helping us win the World Cup three months ago,” said India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.“He had a great IPL, and it’s important to give confidence to the players and send a message to the players that we want to give the guys a long run in the team. We are all excited to see Vaibhav play, but he has to go through the same process. There’s no question about how good he is,” he added. However, AB de Villiers does not agree with that approach.“When will he be released? I think the Ireland series is the perfect opportunity for him to come in and get a feel for international cricket. Unfortunately he didn’t get the chance. I beg to differ Ryan ten Doeschate who said Sooryavanshi should go through the process like any other player. on his YouTube channel.Sanju Samson’s struggles in three consecutive innings further bolstered Sooryavanshi’s chances for a debut. Earlier, cricketing legends including Ravi Shastri, Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook also said that Sooryavanshi should make his debut in the two-T20I series against Ireland. On the other side of the debate are Cheteshwar Pujara and Saba Karim, who believe that Sooryavanshi’s inclusion should not come at the expense of a proven performer. After a disappointing 2-0 series loss in Afghanistan, India are still looking for a turnaround as they continue their tour of England.
Do you agree with AB de Villiers view that Sooryavanshi should have played earlier?
