The Mohanlal-starrer is still one of the most celebrated characters in Malayalam cinema and he is prolific. Tovino Thomas he recently revisited one of the oldest film memories while promoting his latest release, ‘Balan: The Boy’. Looking back on his childhood, the actor recalled how watching Manichitrathazhu in the theaters left an impression on him.Speaking to Club FM about the incident, Tovino said, “I watched a lot of movies in theaters as a child, but Manichitrathazhu has stayed with me ever since.

Cinema has always been a family tradition

Tovino also shared that his love for movies was a result of his upbringing. Cinema has always been an important part of family life, visiting the theater is a tradition at family celebrations.He explained that even before he and his siblings were born, his parents always watched movies together. As the family grew, the outings became difficult to plan. But their passion for cinema did not end.Sharing his memories, Tovino said: “My family has always loved watching movies. Whenever the family got married, it was customary for everyone to go to the theater together. Even before my siblings and I were born, my parents never missed an opportunity to watch movies.”

Weekend movie nights made his appeal

Frequent trips to the theater proved ineffective, Tovino’s father found another way to preserve the family’s movie tradition. He bought a video cassette. He made sure to watch movies at home on weekends.The actor recalled spending hours re-watching tapes he had borrowed with his brother. Such experiences fueled his interest in cinema.Remembering those days, he said: “When we were growing up, it was difficult for the whole family to go to the theater together. So my father used to buy video cassettes. My brother and I used to watch those movies over and over again. I think this is where my interest in cinema started. “On the career front, Tovino Thomas’ latest venture is in ‘Balan: The Boy’. Directed by Chidambaram and written by Jithu Madhavan, the Malayalam psychological drama thriller features Adhisheshan KR, Farzana Palathingal, Muhammad Zinaan, Jean Paul Lal, Girish AD, and Tovino in important roles.According to Sacnilk estimates, ‘Balan: The Boy’s’ worldwide collection is currently at Rs 24.26 crore.
