Sanjay Dutt he never spoke in detail about the tragedies that changed his life. Although the actor is known for his film appearances, he often talks about his parents in private. In a recent interview, he reflected on the tragic death of his mother, the legendary Nargis, who passed away days before the release of his first film.Sanjay also witnessed Nargis’ battle with pancreatic cancer, recalling how the family traveled abroad for treatment to save her. He said in an interview with the AIG Hospitals YouTube channel, “So, my mother died of cancer, unfortunately, pancreatic cancer. This was in the early 80’s, so even the technology we have today didn’t exist back then. There was this big operation that was done. We went to New York and did it at Sloan Kettering.“He went on to explain the emotional stress that illness put on the family, saying that he was about 20 years old when he saw his mother suffer for a long time.“There were a lot of problems with him. I was very young at the time, about 19 or 20. To see my mother go through all that, we gave platelets, we did everything we could. My sisters were younger than me, and it was a very painful time.” Sanjay also recalled a difficult episode when his father, Sunil Dutthe asked her to come back to India and finish her work on her first film, ‘Rocky’, even though Nargis was in a coma. At that time, he found it impossible to understand what he had chosen.“My film was about to be released, so that was another pressure. My father also sent me to finish the film while my mother was in a coma. At that time, I didn’t understand, why was I finishing the film when my mother was in a coma?Recalling her last moments, Sanjay said he believed that Nargis had stayed until she could return home. “I saw him fighting. I think he just wanted to get home somehow. He kept fighting until he got back, and as soon as he got home, he stopped the fight. We lost him when he got back here.”During the interview, Sanjay also paid tribute to his father, describing Sunil Dutt as a mentor whose values continue to guide him. He thanked him for teaching humility and respect which he still follows today.“He was a strict father. And I think that all the values we have today came from him, the values of respecting elders, elders, doctors. Even though the doctor is younger than me, I still respect him because he is my doctor.”Nargis died in 1981 at the age of 51 after battling stomach cancer, days before the release of Sanjay Dutt’s blockbuster ‘Rocky’.
