The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has announced a major relief measure for students who lost their educational documents in the recent floods, which will enable them to obtain duplicate copies of key academic records without paying any fee.The initiative covers important documents such as pass certificates, mark sheets, admit cards and matriculation cards, ensuring that students do not face academic setbacks due to an already life-altering natural disaster.
The relief announced by the state government takes formal shape
The decision follows Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s announcement that students in flood-hit districts should not have to bear the cost of replacing documents destroyed by the calamity.According to the board, the benefit will be available to students of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat, districts that witnessed heavy floods and damage earlier this year. The move aims to help students recover essential academic records needed for admission, exams and employment.
Separate online portals notified for class 10 and class 12 students
In a notification issued on July 29, ASSEB detailed the application process for obtaining duplicate documents. Students seeking duplicates of High School Certificate (HSLC), Assam High Madrassa (AHM) and other Class 10 records can submit their applications through SEBA’s online service portal. Those who study High School (HS) or need class 12 documents must apply through the official ASSEB High School portal. The board has advised the students to complete the application process online through the respective portals.
The Board facilitates the application process by waiving the police report requirement
To simplify the procedure for families affected by the floods, the ASSEB has also removed the requirement to file a police report while requesting the duplication of documents.Instead, students will only need to upload a self-declaration confirming that their original certificates have been lost or damaged in the recent floods. The relaxation is expected to reduce paperwork and help applicants get replacement documents faster.
The temporary measure aims to protect students from academic disruption
